LLP Scope of Authority

Providing Affordable, Accessible Legal Support in Family Law Matters

At AWH Family Law, we are proud to offer services from Licensed Legal Paraprofessionals (LLPs) - a new category of legal professionals in Colorado who have a limited license to practice law as governed by C.R.C.P. 207.1. LLPs expand access to legal help for individuals and families navigating divorce, parenting issues, and post-decree concerns.

What Is a Licensed Legal Paraprofessional?

A Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP) is a specially licensed professional authorized by the Colorado Supreme Court to provide legal advice and representation in select areas of family law. LLPs are held to the same ethical standards as attorneys and are fully licensed to operate independently within the scope defined by the Colorado Supreme Court, C.R.C.P. 207.1.

How LLPs Can Help in Family Law Cases

LLPs can represent clients in a range of family law matters, including:

  • Divorce and legal separation (with or without children)

  • Allocation of parental responsibilities (custody)

  • Parenting time and decision-making

  • Child support and spousal maintenance

  • Post-decree modifications and enforcement

LLPs can:

  • Provide legal advice

  • Draft and file court documents

  • Represent clients in court

  • Help clients understand their rights and obligations

  • Guide clients through negotiations and settlement discussions

Their work is limited to cases that fall under Colorado LLP rules. We will always help determine whether an LLP or a Licensed Attorney is appropriate for your case.

Benefits of Working with an LLP

  • More Affordable – LLPs offer legal services at a lower cost than traditional attorney representation

  • Focused Support – LLPs are trained and/or educated specifically in family law and have passed a Colorado Family Law focused exam

  • Court-Approved – LLPs are licensed by the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel (OARC) and their scope of authority is governed by C.R.C.P 207.1

Working with an LLP at Altitude Law Group

Our firm proudly integrates LLPs into our legal team to expand the range of services available to our clients. Depending on your needs and the complexity of your case, we may offer representation through:

  • A Licensed Legal Paraprofessional

  • A Licensed Attorney, or

  • A collaborative approach using both, for maximum cost-efficiency.

We believe that high-quality legal help should be within reach. Our LLPs provide thoughtful, strategic support for clients who may not need - or cannot afford - full attorney representation but still deserve knowledgeable legal guidance.

Is LLP Representation Right for You?

If you are involved in a family law case and aren’t sure how to move forward, an LLP may be the ideal fit for your legal needs and budget. We’ll help assess whether your case qualifies and explain all your options clearly.
